MAREK Drywall Sales Manager Roland Mercier recently wrote about MAREK Houston's participation in the remodel of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral with General Contractor Satterfield and Pontikes. MAREK's turnkey contract included framing, sheathing, roof trusses, rough carpentry, and thermal insulation, along with drywall, paint, acoustical plaster, and ceilings.
Randall Kubin, an insulator sponsored by ABC Greater Houston and employed by Brand Energy Solutions, described the competition as a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” and expressed that he “put everything [he] had out on the floor that day.” Kubin’s hard work and professional performance earned him First Place Safety in Insulation. When asked what prepared him for the title, he says being thorough and “experience in his craft.”
The lunch whistle has sounded at ABC's 2015 National Craft Championship, signaling to craft professionals that it is time safely secure their workstations and proceed to lunch. This morning, a similar whistle sounded, signaling the beginning of the skills portion of the craft competition. Within moments, the quiet focus and anticipation felt in the Grand Hall was overcome by organized commotion. Saws began to buzz. Hammers went to work. The smell of fresh cut wood accompanied fleeting whiffs of welding fumes.
